Bon Villa – Where Silence Has Its Place

More than a guesthouse

There are places we visit to discover something new. And there are places where what truly matters is what we can leave behind for a while.

The noise. The rush. The constant demands of everyday life.

Bon Villa is one of those places.

Among the rolling hills of Zala, above Zalaszentgrót, an old wine cellar has been given a new life, surrounded by vineyards and forests on Aranyodi Hill. From here, the landscape stretches far into the distance, the night sky seems darker, mornings begin with birdsong, and time somehow appears to move a little more slowly.

Perhaps that is why we felt this place deserved not simply a name, but a meaning.

Why Bon?

For us, the name Bon is inspired by the ancient Tibetan Bön – or Bon – tradition and the ideas we associate with it: stillness, respect for nature and the search for inner peace.

We did not want to give the house a religious identity.

Rather, we wanted to express an idea.

That sometimes it is worth stopping. Doing less and noticing more. Listening to the world around us, following the rhythm of nature and simply being present in the moment.

Villa is the place itself: a house on the hill that gives you the space to do exactly that.

And so Bon Villa was born.

A name that, to us, reflects everything we hope to preserve here:

silence, simplicity, nature and tranquillity.

An old wine cellar with a new story

The story of the house began long before us.

The building was one of the early wine cellars of Aranyodi Hill, dating back to a time when the vineyard was not a weekend retreat or a destination, but part of everyday life.

Grapes were grown, wine was made, families gathered, food simmered over an open fire, and at the end of a long day there was time to sit down together.

When we began restoring the old cellar, we did not want to erase this past.

Quite the opposite.

We wanted to preserve the character of the traditional vineyard house while creating the comfort that allows guests to enjoy it today.

We were not trying to create a perfectly polished urban environment.

We wanted to preserve a genuine country house.

A house with a story.

Sometimes luxury is simply silence

Our everyday lives are filled with constant activity.

Messages arrive. Phones ring. Deadlines follow one another. We travel, work, organise and plan.

And somewhere along the way, something that once felt completely natural has become increasingly rare:

having nothing we need to do.

At Bon Villa, we would like to give you some of that time back.

Not by filling every minute with activities, but by leaving space for everyone to find their own rhythm.

Wake up early and take your coffee onto the terrace.

Disappear beneath the walnut tree with a good book.

Watch the afternoon light slowly move across the hills of Zala.

Open a bottle of local wine, prepare dinner, light a fire and talk long into the evening.

Or simply do nothing at all.

Here, that counts as a plan too.

Returning to something familiar

Many of us still remember summers and weekends when relaxation did not require an itinerary.

A garden was enough.

A long table.

Something cooking over the fire.

Children playing on the grass.

A glass of wine at sunset.

And conversations that did not need to end because nobody was watching the clock.

Bon Villa is a modern version of that feeling.

More comfortable than an old vineyard cellar, perhaps, but we hope it still preserves the same simplicity.

That wonderful feeling that here, there is time.

Nature is not the backdrop – it is part of the house

We did not design the surroundings of Bon Villa.

The landscape of Zala did that for us.

Vineyards, fruit trees, forests, rolling hills, birds, crickets and light that changes continuously with the seasons surround the house.

In spring, everything seems to awaken at once.

Summer brings long evenings outdoors.

In autumn, the vineyard hills change colour and the atmosphere of the harvest arrives.

And in winter, perhaps more than at any other time, you can experience what we love most about this place:

the silence.

We do not want to tame this landscape.

Part of the Bon Villa experience is knowing that you are staying on a real vineyard hill, where nature is not decoration.

It is part of everyday life.

There is plenty to discover – but staying is an option too

Thanks to its location, Bon Villa is an excellent starting point for discovering Zala and the Balaton Highlands.

Hévíz, Keszthely and Lake Balaton, the Kis-Balaton wetlands, Kehidakustány, the Szajki Lakes, Sümeg, Tapolca and Badacsony can all become destinations for a day out.

But this page was not created to list everything there is to see nearby.

That is what our destination guides are for.

Because there is another possibility.

Stay.

Let breakfast last a little longer.

Walk through the vineyard hills.

Read.

Cook.

Open a bottle of wine.

Watch the sunset.

And allow a few hours to pass without anything particularly important happening.

Perhaps those will be the moments you remember the longest.

Bon Villa

We do not want to tell you how to relax here.

Some guests set off from Bon Villa to explore Zala. Others spend the entire day in the garden. Some hike or cycle, while others read, cook or simply enjoy the view.

For us, Bon Villa is not a programme.

It is a place that creates space for something our everyday lives increasingly leave little time for.

To stop.

To look around.

To be together.

To be quiet.

And to remember what it feels like to have time simply to live.

Bon Villa – where there is no need to hurry.

BON VILLA

Zala. Silence. Nature.

A thousand valleys. A thousand gentle curves,
a thousand hills, a thousand islands of woodland…
A thousand homes, whitewashed press houses,
old wine cellars with iron-bound doors,
valleys as delicate as something from a fairy tale…
the whistle of a blackbird drifts across the countryside.

This landscape, beyond compare.
This landscape, unlike any other.

There is a place among the hills of Zala where all of this can still be found.

An old wine cellar. Vineyards and forests. Rolling hills stretching into the distance. Birdsong in the morning, crickets in the evening, and the kind of silence that has become increasingly rare.

This is where Bon Villa was given a new life.

Not to change this place, but to become part of it.

Bon Villa – where there is no need to hurry.
