Zalacsány Fishing Lake

A fishing lake surrounded by the forests of Zala

Zalacsány lies in the heart of the Zala Hills, close to Zalaszentgrót, Hévíz and Keszthely. On the edge of the village, surrounded by beech, acacia, pine and Turkey oak woodland, you will find Zalacsány Fishing Lake.

The reservoir was created by damming the Kettős Stream and was established in 1991. It offers approximately 13 hectares of fishable water, with an average depth of 2.5 metres, increasing to almost 5 metres in places near the dam.

The lake bed is largely free of obstacles, with a slightly silty, marl and clay bottom, providing varied conditions for different styles of fishing.

If you’re hoping for a really big catch…

Zalacsány Fishing Lake has become particularly well known for its rich stock of large fish.

One of the lake’s main species is carp, including specimens weighing more than 20 kilograms. Beautiful koi carp are another unusual feature, while the lake is also home to grass carp, catfish, pike-perch, pike, crucian carp and various species of smaller coarse fish.

Regular stocking has also made the lake popular with sport and boilie anglers.

The smaller lake has a few surprises too

Alongside the main fishing lake is a smaller show pond. Depending on the season and current stocking, anglers may be able to fish here for species including African catfish and pike.

Fishing conditions and regulations may differ between the main lake and the smaller pond, so it is worth checking the latest rules and ticket options before your visit.

Not just for dedicated anglers

One of the attractions of Zalacsány Fishing Lake is that fishing can easily be combined with a relaxing day surrounded by nature.

The well-kept lakeside and wooded setting mean that other family members can enjoy coming along even if they are not interested in fishing themselves. There is a snack bar at the lake, and other facilities may also be available to make a longer stay by the water more comfortable.

Please note: the lake is primarily a fishing water and swimming is not permitted.

Fishing and hiking in one day

Even if not everyone in the family enjoys fishing, Zalacsány can still make a great destination for a day out together.

On the wooded hillside above the lake, you will find the Körtvélyesi Nature Trail, which is approximately 3.1 kilometres long. Information boards along the forest path introduce visitors to the plants and wildlife of the Zala woodlands.

So while one member of the family waits by the water for that big catch, the others can head off for an enjoyable walk through the forest.

Easy to reach

The fishing lake is located on the outskirts of Zalacsány, close to Route 76, making it easy to reach by car from the direction of Zalaszentgrót.

Day-ticket prices, fishing regulations, permitted methods and opening hours may change, so always check the latest information before planning a fishing trip.

Bon Villa tip: If you are planning a full day out, combine fishing with a walk along the Körtvélyesi Nature Trail. This way, family members who are not keen on fishing will have plenty to enjoy too, and at the end of the day you can return to Bon Villa for a peaceful evening.

A quiet lake, the forests of Zala and the chance of landing a truly impressive catch – Zalacsány Fishing Lake is a great choice for a day surrounded by nature.
